Low FODMAP bread at Woolworths and Coles

By GroceryWise · Published

Monash University lists 2 slices of gluten-free bread, 2 slices of spelt sourdough and 1 slice of oat sourdough as suitable low FODMAP choices, and wholegrain wheat bread and rye bread among the breads to avoid during the strict stage of the diet. The loaves, thins and wraps we list come from Coles' FODMAP Friendly aisle, and each names whether Coles, Woolworths or both stock it this week.

These are the figures Monash published in August 2015, in Wheat and a low FODMAP diet. The Monash FODMAP app holds Monash's current serves, so check the app before relying on a number here. This page is general information, not dietary advice.

Each product we list was in Coles' FODMAP Friendly aisle, which GroceryWise lists as Low FODMAP Food, when we checked on 7 October 2026. Being on the aisle isn't a certification, and we haven't tested any of them, so check each pack for a certification logo and its serve size.

Is gluten-free bread low FODMAP?

Not always. Monash's 2 slices is for gluten-free bread in general, not for any loaf we list. Its low FODMAP shopping list (February 2025) notes: "Gluten free products, whilst more likely to be low FODMAP, sometimes contain high FODMAP ingredients (such as soy and legume-based flours). Ensure you always check the ingredients list before purchasing." The same wheat post says a low FODMAP diet doesn't require a strict wheat-free or gluten-free diet: wheat, rye and barley are limited for their fructans, not their gluten.

Gluten-free loaves on the FODMAP aisle

Sliced gluten-free loaves. Gluten free isn't a FODMAP rating. We haven't tested it, so check the pack for a certification logo and its serve size.

Sandwich thins

None of the Monash articles cited here gives a serve for sandwich thins, so the pack is the only guide: look for a certification logo and the serve size printed with it.

Sourdough

Monash's sourdough serves are for spelt and oat, not white wheat. Our article is sourdough bread low FODMAP? covers how the flour and the proving change the answer for spelt, oat, wheat, gluten-free and rye sourdough.

White sourdough on the FODMAP aisle

White wheat sourdough loaves. Monash's sourdough serves are for spelt and oat, not white wheat. We haven't tested it, so check the pack for a certification logo and its serve size.

Low FODMAP wraps and corn tortillas

Corn tortilla is among the grain foods Monash has tested and found low FODMAP at either a full or half serve, in its article on grains (August 2016), which gives no serve size. Monash's guide to non-traditional grains (August 2017) suggests corn tortillas for wraps, sandwiches and pizza bases. None of the Monash articles cited here gives a serve for low-carb wraps.

Low FODMAP bread at Woolworths

The FODMAP Friendly aisle is a Coles aisle, but several of the loaves, thins and wraps on it are national brands that Woolworths stocks too. Each product we list names the supermarkets that stock it this week. For cereal, pasta, stocks and sauces at both, see our low FODMAP Woolworths and Coles shopping list.

Before you buy

  • Look for a Monash University or FODMAP Friendly logo on the pack.
  • Check the serve size printed with the logo: a larger serve may not be low FODMAP.
  • Read the ingredient list for garlic, onion, inulin, honey and polyol sweeteners (420, 421, 953, 965, 967).
  • A gluten-free label is not a FODMAP rating: check for soy or legume flours.

The ingredients to watch come from Monash University's guide to reading labels. Each product here was chosen from Coles' FODMAP Friendly aisle. The aisle name is not a certification, and we haven't tested any of them. Names, links and stockists come from this week's prices.

Our low FODMAP shopping guide explains both certification logos and what to check on a label.
